    Chief Lending and Program Officer

The Genesis Fund seeks our first Chief Lending and Program Officer. The ideal candidate will be an innovative and strategic thinker with a passion for community development and achieving statewide impact. We seek a leader experienced in real estate development and/or community development finance who sees a strong fit with the mission and values of the Genesis Fund.

The Chief Lending and Program Officer is a new senior/executive level position responsible for leading the Genesis Fund's lending and technical assistance programs. S/he will lead business development and collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and cultivate key partnerships for the organization. S/he will oversee the deployment of loan capital and develop technical assistance engagements, and ensure that targets for capital deployment and programmatic impact are met.

Our ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of the real estate development process and funding and financing options for affordable housing and community facility development, as well as strong leadership and project management skills. We are seeking a person with an entrepreneurial approach who is skilled in business development - identifying opportunities, building relationships, and working to say "yes" to new ideas and innovation while also ensuring that existing goals and strategies are met.

    The Genesis Fund

The Genesis Fund, a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), is a statewide leader in expanding the supply of affordable housing and community facilities across Maine. We do this by both raising capital to provide financing to nonprofit organizations developing these projects and by offering expert technical assistance when needed. Through our work, we seek to address some of Maine's most pressing challenges that face low-income people and communities. These include access to stable, affordable housing, high-quality child care, affordable health care, adequate and healthy food and recovery services for those facing addiction.

As a mission-driven lender, we can be flexible in meeting the needs of our communities and borrowers, developing innovative strategies and providing patient capital for high impact projects and bridging gaps in financing not met by other financial institutions. As a leader in the sector, we also have the opportunity to serve as a connector between organizations and institutions across the state that are seeking to solve community problems and don't know where to start or how to fit the pieces together. Our goal is to make every good idea a success, whether through our own capital and technical support, or by directing community partners to the best resource. We also work to expand resources for affordable housing development throughout the state and help highlight the most pressing needs for action.

Now in our 28th year, the Genesis Fund is in an exciting period of growth and expanding visibility. In the past three years, our total assets have increased by more than 65%, driven by demand for our loan products and technical assistance. We currently have over $27M in capital under management, and expect to develop a plan that will get us to $50M in the next decade. We recently made our first loan in New Hampshire, expanding our footprint beyond Maine for the first time. We've completed a recent leadership transition and are looking to grow both the Fund and the staff to meet increased demand and new strategic opportunities. In 2020, we will be developing a new strategic plan to guide our work and ensure our impact into the future.

The Chief Lending and Program Officer will have the opportunity to join the Genesis Fund at an exciting time in our organization's growth - developing our strategies, expanding our markets, and leading us to broader and deeper impact in Maine and beyond.
