CDFI Friendly Cities: Smaller Communities helping CDFIs Invest

When:  Jan 14, 2020 from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM (ET)
Associated with  Open Forum
The webinar will discuss the "CDFI Friendly" organizing strategy, a new model being deployed in Bloomington, IN and South Bend, IN, to expand CDFI investment into smaller markets. A CDFI Friendly community leverages its private and public resources to facilitate CDFI financing that benefits its under-resourced and/or underserved populations and communities. Bloomington and South Bend—the first two CDFI Friendly communities in the nation—have aligned community assets to create non-governmental entities that serve as matchmakers between local financial need and lenders who can provide capital to meet these needs, including CDFIs, banks, and credit unions. The webinar will introduce the CDFI Friendly model, provide updates on progress in Bloomington and South Bend, and welcome input from CDFIs on how to optimize effort, challenges, and successes in reaching smaller cities in your market.
Panelists: Adina Abramowitz, Consulting for Change; Brian Payne, CDFI Friendly Bloomington; Sonja Karnovsky, City of South Bend.
