The US social sector, which is vital to our democratic society, needs a strong support system to help it thrive. We call this support system the social sector infrastructure. Often overlooked, the infrastructure is an ecosystem of providers that offers services focused on sustainability, learning, relationships, and influence to social sector organizations. These services help social sector entities form, operate, grow, develop, connect, engage, and influence our society.

What is the current state of the social sector infrastructure, and what does it need for the future?

Join the Urban Institute’s Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy for a virtual event discussing new research from the Urban Institute and George Mason University with leading social sector infrastructure users, providers, and funders. We will discuss the financial health of national social sector infrastructure organizations; explore the infrastructure’s growth, inequities and disparities in the field, and the importance of well-being; and discuss how infrastructure funders, providers, and users can promote a stronger and more equitable social sector.
