CAPITAL & EQUITABLE COMMUNITIES: Making the Case for Community Engagement, Grassroots Participation

When:  Oct 22, 2019 from 07:30 AM to 08:30 AM (ET)
Associated with  Open Forum

Background
In the Transform Finance's Capital and Equitable Communities project, we are exploring and identifying how the process, voice, and agency around capital for low-income communities and communities of color are an integral part of what leads to racial and economic justice. We are then providing action-oriented guidance for how all relevant stakeholders – financial intermediaries (e.g. CDFIs and credit unions), philanthropy, and grassroots community organizations – can support such processes in capital deployment.

Participate in discussing bold ideas for how to support community-led finance!

  • Share first-hand experience about mechanisms that involve impacted communities in the influence and/or governance over place-based capital investment.
  • Recommend how values-aligned developers place-based investors can strengthen their community engagement processes.
  • Indicate what support you need from different stakeholders for developing a collaborative community-led ecosystem for governing capital

If you are supporting community engaged investment processes, we want to hear from you!
Examples include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Community representatives elected to a foundation board or investment committee,
  • A funder who has supported a place-based investor to develop a community decision-making process
  • Financial intermediaries working with residents to develop investment screens
  • Grassroots community organizations initiating and developing community funds and CDFIs
Look forward to seeing you Tuesday morning at the conference!
