    Data Analyst

Position Type: Full-time; California-based (San Francisco/Oakland/East Bay preferred) (remote during COVID-19)
Reports to: Manager, Data & Analytics
Salary: $50k – $65k, dependent on work experience and geography

Are you passionate about building a more equitable society through restorative capital and inclusive entrepreneurship? Are you interested in data for social impact? Is your superpower designing end-to-end analytics solutions and translating business needs into technical requirements? If so, consider joining Pacific Community Ventures as our Data Analyst. This cross-functional role will be based in our new Good Jobs Innovation Lab, and help build our data analytics function, in service of our Business Advising and Restorative Lending product teams, using data to help optimize operations, service delivery, and propel their impact.

    Who We Are

PCV is a 24-year-old nonprofit CDFI that is invested in the success of historically excluded communities and small business owners to build and grow their businesses, create good quality jobs that address racial and gender wealth gaps, and build community wealth for shared prosperity. Our approach is unique. PCV's Small Business Lending and Advising teams connect entrepreneurs to the pre-and post-investment expertise, and restorative capital they need to grow their businesses to help local economies thrive. PCV's new Good Jobs Innovation Lab wraps around these teams using applied research, product design, and impact evaluation to design increasingly effective products and services for the communities we serve.

    Why You're Needed

PCV is a dynamic, growing nonprofit social enterprise constantly looking for ways to optimize our operations and leverage the data we track to guide our work. In this role, you will be responsible for data management, reporting, analyzing, and monitoring PCV's existing data to drive more evidence-based decision-making. You will also support both our Business Advising and Lending teams in making sure we are providing a smooth, impactful experience to the small business owners we serve.

Our ideal candidate is someone with a data-driven mindset, ideally with experience conducting data analysis and a passion for social justice, community development, and/or entrepreneurship.

This is a great role for someone with strong technical fluency interested in a career in social impact and data analytics. This role will also be involved in program evaluation and design within the Good Jobs Innovation Lab and contribute to product innovation across our teams. The Data Analyst will play an important role in shaping our new technology and data infrastructure.

    Specific Responsibilities:

    • Build and maintain KPI dashboards for internal strategy and public dashboards for our partner organizations.
    • Conduct ad-hoc data analysis and build data models to leverage existing client data.
    • Manage data operational flow between our different service platforms, our database, and business intelligence tools. Ensure data integrity by performing necessary data checks and clean up.
    • Collaborate across PCV's departments including Finance & Accounting, Communications & Marketing, and Grants to understand and solve their analytics needs.
    • Partner with our Data Manager and Data Architecture Consultant to design and implement a cloud-based data warehouse, extract transform load (ETL) processes, and business intelligence tools.
    • Help identify and develop internal process improvements to our data pipelines; automate manual processes, optimize data cleaning, and apply best practices in ETL design to build a scalable, robust data infrastructure.
    • Under Good Jobs Innovation Lab leadership, lead the analysis and translation of key business questions into appropriate analytical projects.
    • Support PCV's annual impact survey and analysis of small business owners, supporting the leveraging of the learnings to inform regular feedback loops for improved iteration of our Lending and Business Advising services.
    • Communicate findings to a non-technical audience, including PCV stakeholders, through reports, infographics, and dashboards.
    • Help represent PCV at data for good, community development, or impact investing conferences.

    Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Evidence, and our own collective experience, suggest that women and people of color often don't apply for jobs if they don't believe they possess 100% of the qualifications listed in a job description. Accordingly, below are some of the most important attributes that successful candidates may possess. This list is neither exhaustive nor 100% required:

    • 1+ year of work experience in a data analytics related role, including internships.
    • College degree or relevant experience in a related technical field such as business analytics, business intelligence, data science, and/or data engineering.
    • You are a self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity, asks thoughtful questions, and can translate unclear situations/business requests into clear, actionable next steps.
    • High technical and analytical aptitude and confidence in learning new data ecosystems and tools quickly.
    • Meticulous attention to detail and follow-through, someone who sees the value in documentation, but doesn't get bogged down by it.
    • Experience translating business needs into technical requirements, and technical analysis into data-driven impactful storytelling.
    • Advanced data analysis skills including efficient manipulation and analysis of large data sets.
    • Knowledge in data visualization and business intelligence tools such as Tableau a huge plus.
    • Knowledge in data warehousing and ETL tools such as AWS a huge plus.
    • Interest in social justice, community development and/or entrepreneurship.

    Location & Travel

PCV's office is located by the 19th Street BART Station in Oakland, CA. PCV works largely remotely and gathers for in-person staff retreats twice a year, and otherwise determined by team and manager.
