    Position Summary - Development Associate (Remote) - African American Alliance of CDFI CEOs

    Reporting to the Vice President of Development (VPD), the Development Associate (DA) plays a critical role in the administration of the organization's fundraising and compliance functions. The DA will understand the importance of developing coordination strategies, maintaining accurate record, delivering high standards of organization, and executing against established benchmarks and deliverables. He/she will also be an ambassador for the organization and will need to build relationships within the Alliance member network. This role will be visible within the organization, working collaboratively with other Alliance departments and staff and externally with stakeholders when requested. This role would suit an individual of outstanding administrative ability with three to five years' experience providing grant writing and administrative support to a non-profit organization.


    Responsibilities & Essential Job Functions

    • Assist the VP of Development in executing the Alliance's fundraising program and development campaigns
    • Assist in identifying funding opportunities from corporate, foundation and public sources that are aligned with the organization's mission
    • Maintain good working relationships and communications with existing and potential funders
    • Assist in maintaining a list of public and private funders for financial and other support
    • Assist in developing and implementing an individual donor strategy
    • Maintain a timeline of due dates for proposals and reports and comply with submission deadlines
    • Review and ensure all aspects of grant agreements are adhered to including the submission of timely reports
    • Collect information for and assist in creating any required Board or staff reports
    • Assist in developing and maintaining records of all development activity, providing data to internal teams as requested
    • Provide suggestions for improvement to the overall development strategy
    • Participate in initiatives, programs, meetings, and presentations as required
    • Other duties as assigned by the VPD or President & CEO


    Desired Competencies & Abilities

    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Demonstrated ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, including writing and editing original material
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent judgment and the ability to make sound decisions within the scope of the position Ability to multi-task and handle multiple deadlines with appropriate prioritization while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail 
    • Demonstrated experience raising funds, managing capital campaigns, and tracking donor contributions
    • Experience measuring data and articulating outcomes of programs and events
    • Positive and collaborative attitude


    Education and/or Experience

    • An undergraduate degree in Business, Fund Development, Human Services, English/English Literature or another related field is preferred.  
    • At least three years direct experience in procuring grant opportunities; capabilities in grant research and writing, including the varied approaches required for governmental, foundation, corporate and individual fundraising 
    • Competitive candidates will have existing knowledge of public and private sources of funding in the CDFI industry, especially those related to affordable housing, racial equity, social justice, social indicators of health, and economic development
