    Position Summary

    The Director, CDRE Credit and Loan Workout reports to the Head of Credit for Momentus Capital. The incumbent is responsible for the review and approval of Community Development Commercial Real Estate (CDRE) loans up to ($2 million) Board approved limits. Collaborating with the Portfolio Management Team in evaluating borrower requests and consents pursuant to terms of the loan documents and servicing agreements consistent with established guidelines and servicing standards. Directing  the management and workout of adversely graded loans through the restructuring of debt, negotiation of  settlement agreements, pursuit of appropriate legal action and/or the liquidation of collateral for  an assigned portfolio of traditional CDFI, Investments and Portfolio loans, and other asset classes as necessary to maximize the recovery or repayment across the portfolio(s). Position Momentus Capital  to secure Special Servicing ratings from the Rating Agencies tied to anticipated growth. Support a team of professionals in pursuit of the strategic goals of the organization.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Screening of individual transactions
    • Assist with developing transactions in underwriting and providing advice on the management of loans in the portfolio
    • Review credit memos and amendment requests for compliance with credit guidelines or with proper mitigants in place, alignment with corporate risk tolerance, and as appropriate, in compliance with programmatic requirements related to Lending Initiatives 
    • Coordinate the annual review process as it relates to special and non-performing assets
    • Support Corporate Risk Management and Reporting, including assistance with calculating loan loss allowance and review of the risk ratings 
    • Leadership and management oversight in directing the actions for the non-performing (special assets) portfolio in completion of complex job duties including managing non-performing assets and in review and approval of borrower requests
    • Reviews lender liability issues with counsel to avoid lawsuits and keep legal expenses under control
    • Collaborate with our 3rd party special assets consulting firm to transition the existing portfolio
    • Strategic development and use of automated systems to leverage information flow and in portfolio reporting and process management
    • Develop reporting metrics for each asset and collaborate with Data Operations to visualize data
    • Effectively manage business risks to optimize returns and minimize losses.
    • Interface with and deepen key business relationships with third party industry participants such as rating agencies
    • Travel as required
    • Oversee and manage staff development activities; improve overall team performance by goal setting, assessing performance and communicating performance objectives, training curriculum support, career-pathing and mentoring. Develop, and manage, annual goals and objectives
    • Participate in annual rating agency reviews/data and other management meetings as necessary


    • Professional Skills, Education and Experience
    • Undergraduate college degree or equivalent job related experience

    • Minimum of five  (5) years relevant experience in financial services, community development real estate lending, commercial real estate, or related field

    • Demonstrated background in asset management, negotiation, problem resolution and portfolio workouts across a variety of asset classes including commercial real estate

    • Knowledge of Loan Loss Allowance, risk rating, collections, bankruptcy and lending laws, construction loans, and credit decisioning and cash flow analysis 

    • Knowledge of laws, regulations, internal policies and procedures appropriate to the position

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Understanding of Special Servicing as it relates to rated securitizations

    • Prior CDFI related credit approval experience

    • Servicing experience with emphasis on assumption and consent request processing

    • Affordable housing finance experience

    • Small Business lending experience

    • Prior management experience desired, but not required

    • Commercial and Industrial (C&I) lending experience
