    About the Position:
    Civic Builders is currently seeking a Director of Lending Compliance to manage and oversee its rapidly growing portfolio of charter school facilities & loans. Civic's portfolio includes loan & leases from its real estate development work, lending, borrowing, and tax credit investments. This position will report to the VP of Accounting and will manage the current 3-person asset management team.

    Responsibilities:
    The responsibilities of the asset management team include financial reporting; covenant compliance; onboarding new school borrowers; reviewing construction draw requests; reviewing existing leases and loan agreements; collecting and reviewing school data including financial statements, budgets, enrollment, and academic performance; and tax credit program compliance.

    • Oversee the compliance monitoring & reporting obligations across the entire portfolio of approximately 40 charter school projects
    • Responsible for a subset of the portfolio in all aspects including performing the same tasks as the other members of the team
    • Maintain and oversee all excel based compliance trackers
    • Maintain and oversee all excel based reporting trackers for incoming reporting items from charter schools and outgoing reporting items from Civic to lenders, grantors, and governmental agencies
    • Ability to understand school financial statements and annual audits
    • Ability to calculate financial compliance ratios ranging from simple days cash-on-hand to complex coverage calculations
    • Read and assess complex legal documents including leases, loan agreements, and grant agreements to identify compliance & reporting obligations
    • Maintain other building level obligations including reviewing insurance certificates, renewing insurance policies, renewing property tax exemptions, and tracking building violations
    • Expand trackers as new reporting requirements are identified
    • Improve processes and identify & integrate software products to replace certain existing manual or excel based tasks
    • Maintain strong and positive long-term working relationships with lenders, charter school tenants, and building landlords
    • Maintain management reporting tools to ensure clear and concise current status tracking, with actionable updates for management when applicable
    • Assist other projects in support of Civic's mission and programs as needed

    Required Qualifications and Attributes:
    • Bachelor's degree
    • 10+ years of relevant experience, ideally within the sectors of real estate finance, non-profit lending, compliance, or real estate development. Government, tax credit or other special funding program experience preferred
    • Leadership capability to manage staff directly
    • Ability to take the initiative, problem solve, and drive resolutions
    • Ability to work collaboratively with numerous teams both internal and external
    • Ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines
    • Ability to present to senior leadership internally and externally to the organization
    • Incredibly detail oriented
    • High level of accuracy
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Ability to be a self- starter who can engage in significant self-learning and development

    Location and Travel:
    • Civic Builders is located in New York, NY. Our work environment is hybrid, and are expected to work in the office a minimum of two days per week for team collaboration.

    Compensation and Benefits:
    Salary Range: $150,000 - $155,000
