    Hi all,

The REIA community is a place for CDFIs working to deepen and accelerate practices that advance racial equity, inclusion, and accessibility within CDFIs. As we work to better understand and address the legacies of discrimination and institutional racism that continue to underpin inequities in the communities we serve daily, equity, inclusion, and accessibility must be at the core of our work.

This community, originally called "Racial Equity," was created four years ago in response to a specific request from members for dedicated learning space. However, these issues cut across all aspects of lending, financial management, capitalization, communications, evaluation, and more. As part of OFN's periodic audit and refresh of the platform, we would like to understand whether users would rather have these conversations in the Open Forum and across other communities, or whether there's interest in curating a dedicated community for REIA topics. To that end, we're relaunching this community now as a pilot, and plan to reassess activity and community interest after six months. You can share your feedback directly with OFN's Development Services team at developmentservice@ofn.org.

Discussions will be moderated to ensure all posts conform with our Community Guidelines. For further insights on how best to engage with this community and navigate the CDFI Connect platform, please view our FAQs.

I'm interested in knowing your thoughts on whther or not discussions about cooperatives, and worker cooperatives in particular, would best fit into which community?  Either this one on REIA since most of my (ours at DAWI) work is centered around expanding the worker cooperative model to reach communities most directly affected by social and economic inequality, specifically people of color, recent immigrants, and low-wage workforces, and growing that to a scale that creates meaningful change in the economy.

Or the main Open Forum, or is there any opportunity to create a community, especially for cooperative and employee ownership models discussion?

Hi Frank, that's a great question. Yes, this REIA Community could be a great place for discussions on employee ownership and cooperative models because of the emphasis, as you mentioned, on advancing racial equity and economic justice. You're also welcome to start a thread on worker cooperatives in the Open Forum, if you'd prefer to engage the larger community.

We don't plan to create a new community on these topics as they could fit into one of our existing communities, so I hope you'll consider sharing your thoughts or questions either in this REIA community or in the Open Forum.
